There is a part called esophagus in our body that is connected to the diaphragm in the cavity of our chest. The stomach is connected to the diaphragm through the esophagus hiatus which is a small opening on the diaphragm. This is the weakest part of the diaphragm. Gerd symptoms should be examined.
What is Hiatus Hernia? There are times when the part of the diaphragm that is connected to the stomach moves in upward direction through the hole that is present in the cavity of the chest. This causes the diaphragm hole to protrude. The opening of the esophagus contracts and this causes the joint with the stomach to move upwards. This condition is called Hiatus Hernia. What are the effects of the condition called Hiatal Hernia?Though this is normal for the people of the age above 55 years, there are chances that it can cause serious conditions too. However this condition can happen to people no matter what age. What causes the hiatus hernia? The main cause of this condition is the age factor. People who are above the age of 55 generally get affected by Hiatus Hernia. Another cause is when people apply too much pressure when they pass stools. People who cough a lot or people who do not sit properly are also prone to this condition.Other causesPeople who have a diaphragm that is weak and also a weal esophagus can be affected by Hiatus Hernia. Another cause is obesity and practicing wrong methods of lifting weights are also causes of this disease. There are also cases where this condition is hereditary and also it has been observed in people who eat a lot of spearmint, chocolates and also people who smoke a lot.Hiatal Hernia symptomsThe main symptom is pain in the surrounding part but this only happens at a later stage. There are many types of Hiatus Hernia and the one that is the most simple is called Sliding Hiatus Hernia. The condition that happens in this form is that the opening of the esophagus contracts. This part is made up of rings of muscles. The person suffering from this condition will not experience any symptoms and it generally gets healed by the body itself.Another type is called fixed Hiatus Hernia or Rolling Hiatus Hernia and this type the condition that happens is that the part of the stomach that is near the opening of the esophagus starts to swell through the opening of the esophagus. When this happens the stomach begins to protrude and patients having this problem may face very serious situations. Other symptoms are attacks of hiccups that are frequent, heart burns that are common, a feeling of vomiting that is caused suddenly are experience by people suffering from Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease. This is due to the upward flowing of the liquid in the stomach that is present for digestion. At times people also may become unconscious and this happens due to the pressure that builds up on the heart and also due to the reduction in the supply of blood to that part of the stomach. People may also experience difficulty to swallow food. These symptoms are different for different people and the degree to which it is severe also differs from person to person. Most of the times there are no symptoms and also there are no complications. Even if there are complications or symptoms then this will range from either mild symptom or severe symptom. Other complicationsSometimes Hiatal Hernia comes along with GERD, and then the contents of the stomach flows up to the mouth from the stomach. The GERD symptoms then are heartburn, pain in the chest that is termed as epigastric and this at times gives a burning sensation. It can also cause a taste like acid in the mouth. The other symptoms are vomiting, swallowing difficulties and nausea. Chest pain also is a symptom of Hiatal Hernia.Paraesophageal Hernia is a type of Hiatal Hernia and the consequences of this type can be serious and can cause the hernia to be strangulated or obstructed. In such events it calls for an emergency. The symptoms are again nausea and feeling of vomiting and the patient will be unable to have any movement of the bowel or to pass gas. Therefore the common symptoms include reflux of acid, heart burn, pain in the chest and upper part of the stomach. Most of the times there are no symptoms even if they do experience then they are as above. Dangers of Hiatal HerniaThere are some dangerous factors that you need to be careful about and they are that you should avoid lifting heavy things or bending to the front. You should not be coughing for a long time and frequently and also sneezing. Avoid being pregnant and delivery of baby in this condition. Vomiting with a lot of strain and constipation needs to be avoided. |
